Five signs it is time for custom software.

Spreadsheets are the best first software any business can have. The trouble starts when three people edit the same file and nobody trusts the numbers.

Watch for the signs: copy-pasting between sheets every day, a single person who “knows how the file works”, mistakes that cost real money, reports that take a day to build, and customers waiting while someone checks the sheet.

Custom software does not have to be a two-year project. Start with the one workflow that hurts most, ship it in a few weeks, and grow from there.
